2004 Post Labor Day Zabava

On Saturday, October 2nd, the annual Fall Zabava in New York City took place at the elegant home of the Ukrainian Institute of America in New York City. For 2004, the event was renamed the "Post Labor Day Zabava" to reflect the fact that it was taking place a few weeks after the Labor Day festivities.

In an effort to add some additional meaning to the event, the event's sponsors, the New York City Chapter of the Ukrainian Engineers' Society of America (UESA) and the New York Metro Chapter of the Ukrainian Medical Association of North America (UMANA) decided to use the event as an opportunity to help raise funds for the Ukrainian Institute of America's matching grant fund raising program.

The guests that traveled into the heart of New York City for this annual event were not disappointed. The music was pulsing, the bar was humming, and the food, as provided by long time caterer of UESA events Wasyl Krawec, was delectable. In addition to all of this, the guests were able to enjoy the distinctive space and architecture of a building which is not only a New York City landmark, but also a jewel of the Ukrainian-American community.

The evening's entertainment was provided by Fata Morgana. The group, which has been performing locally for over twelve years, entertained the zabava guests to the early hours of the morning.

It appears that the general consensus from those that were able to attend this year's event was that the zabava provided for a very enjoyable social evening . For those that missed out on this unique event, there is always next year to look forward to. In time and with the support of all of our collective members and friends, we hope to continue providing our community members with the opportunity to dance and socialize in the heart of New York City.
